The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) has recently issued a monumental recruitment notification for the year 2026, signaling one of the largest paramilitary hiring drives in recent years. This recruitment initiative aims to fill a staggering 9,195 vacancies for the posts of Constable (Technical & Tradesmen) and Constable (Pioneer). As India’s largest Central Armed Police Force (CAPF), the CRPF plays a critical role in internal security, counter-insurgency, and maintaining law and order. Joining this force is not just a career choice but a commitment to national service.

This article provides an in-depth analysis of the recruitment notice, covering vacancy distributions, eligibility criteria, the selection hierarchy, and the application process to help aspirants navigate this opportunity effectively.

1. Vacancy Distribution and Trade Categories

The 2026 recruitment drive is strategically divided to cover a wide array of technical and vocational skills required to keep the force operational.

  • Constable (Technical & Tradesmen): This category accounts for the bulk of the recruitment with 9,175 vacancies. It is further bifurcated into:
  • Male Candidates: 9,096 posts.
  • Female Candidates: 79 posts.
  • Constable (Pioneer Wing): There are 20 vacancies dedicated to the Pioneer wing (specifically for Male candidates), which includes specialized roles like Masons, Plumbers, and Electricians.

The trades available under the Technical and Tradesmen category are diverse, ranging from high-skill technical roles to essential support services. These include Driver, Motor Mechanic Vehicle (MMV), Cobbler, Carpenter, Tailor, Brass Band, Pipe Band, Bugler, Gardener, Painter, Cook, Water Carrier, Washerman, Barber, and Safai Karamchari. Notably, the vacancies are state-wise and Union Territory-wise, meaning candidates will generally compete within their respective domicile states.

  • Official Notification Release: April 8, 2026.
  • Opening of Online Application Window: April 20, 2026.
  • Closing Date for Applications: May 19, 2026.

3. Eligibility Criteria: Age and Education

The eligibility requirements are specific to the trade a candidate applies for.

Age Limit (As of August 1, 2026):

  • For Constable (Driver): Candidates must be between 21 and 27 years old. This means they should not have been born earlier than January 2, 1999, and not later than January 1, 2005.
  • For MMV and All Other Trades: The age bracket is 18 to 23 years (born between January 2, 2003, and January 1, 2008).
  • Relaxations: Standard government relaxations apply—5 years for SC/ST, 3 years for OBC, and additional provisions for Ex-servicemen and victims of specific civil disturbances.

Educational and Professional Qualifications:

  • Driver: Must have passed Matriculation (10th) from a recognized board and possess a valid Heavy Transport Vehicle (HTV) Driving License.
  • Mechanic Motor Vehicle: 10th pass with a 2-year Industrial Training Institute (ITI) certificate in the relevant trade or a 3-year apprenticeship.
  • Other Trades (Cook, Barber, etc.): 10th pass with proficiency in the respective trade.
  • Pioneer Wing: 10th pass with one year of experience in the respective field (Masonry/Plumbing/Electrician).

4. The Multi-Stage Selection Process

The CRPF follows a rigorous selection mechanism to ensure that only the most fit and capable individuals are inducted.

Stage I: Computer Based Test (CBT) The first hurdle is a 100-mark objective test. It consists of four sections, each carrying 25 marks:

  • General Intelligence and Reasoning
  • General Knowledge and General Awareness
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • English or Hindi (Option based) Candidates have 2 hours to complete the test. A crucial point to remember is the negative marking of 0.25 for every incorrect answer, which necessitates a strategic approach to attempting questions.

Stage II: Physical Standards Test (PST) & Physical Efficiency Test (PET) Those who clear the CBT cutoff move to the physical rounds.

  • PST: Male candidates must generally have a height of 170 cm (relaxations for certain regions and tribes), and female candidates must be 157 cm. Chest measurements for males must be 80 cm (unexpanded) with a 5 cm expansion.
  • PET: This involves a running test. For most trades, males must run 5 km in 24 minutes, while females must run 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes. Requirements are slightly different for specific trades like Cook or Barber.

Stage III: Trade Test This is a practical exam where candidates must demonstrate their skill in the trade they applied for. For example, a Cook will be asked to prepare a meal for 100 people, and a Driver will be tested on driving and basic vehicle maintenance. This stage is qualifying in nature but mandatory.

Stage IV: Document Verification (DV) & Detailed Medical Examination (DME) The final stage involves verifying original documents (education, age, domicile, caste) followed by a comprehensive medical check-up to ensure the candidate meets the medical standards required for active service in a paramilitary force.

5. Salary Structure and Career Growth

Joining the CRPF as a Constable offers significant financial security. The posts fall under Pay Level-3, with a pay scale ranging from ₹21,700 to ₹69,100.

Beyond the basic pay, personnel receive several allowances:

  • Dearness Allowance (DA).
  • Ration Money (approx. ₹3,500 - ₹4,000 per month).
  • House Rent Allowance (HRA) or free accommodation.
  • Risk/Hardship Allowance (based on the area of posting).
  • Uniform and Laundry allowance.
  • Medical facilities for self and family under CGHS/Ayushman CAPF.

Career progression in the CRPF is structured. With years of service and clearing departmental exams, a Constable can rise through the ranks to become a Head Constable, Assistant Sub-Inspector, and eventually a Sub-Inspector.
